Litnaglis investing in capacity and capabilities 28 September 2022

Litnaglis has made significant investments in the development of a new nail factory, which is currently under construction and will include advanced automation and data computing systems to drive efficiencies in the business even higher.

Headquartered in Plungė, Lithuania, JSC Litnaglis was originally established for the manufacture of common nails for use in wooden pallets. Following the company joining the European Pallet Association (EPAL) in 2001 – as well as being one of the first certified EPAL nail manufacturers in the Baltic states – the company began to enjoy considerable commercial growth. This led to Litnaglis expanding into new premises in 2004 and growing the business from an initial productivity of 90 tonnes of product per month into what is now up to 4,000 tonnes of product per month.

“During this time, we also managed to cement our name in the industry as one of the largest nail manufacturers not only in the Baltic states, but also in Europe,” states Litnaglis. “We estimate that by 2023 our maximum production capacity should reach 4,500 tonnes per month – thanks to the new nail factory, which we expect to open in September.”

Litnaglis prides itself on its continuous investment in modernising its equipment and introducing new application technologies in order to improve efficiencies and customer handling. Through the new nail factory the company aims to not only allow for an expansion of workload capacity, but also enable the company to better refine its operations.

Through its production capabilities Litnaglis is able to offer nearly all diameters, and types of nails, and displays a clear commitment to using only the highest quality raw materials for production. “By combining flexibility with high standards of quality we have become recognised for reliability and the ability to meet the ever changing requirements of the industry,” points out Litnaglis.

A key part of its production is Litnaglis’ ability to work with customers on bespoke solutions. “We are flexible and can offer any solution to our customers. Of course, it all depends on the quantity requested by the customer. Prospective customers should take into consideration that Litnaglis is both a nail manufacturer and a wholesaler at the same time, so we sell our products only in large quantities.”

To meet customers’ requests, and continue to develop its technology, Litnaglis has established a training centre for new, inexperienced employees who want to work in the company. “New trainees are given a particular trainee programme followed by a three month probationary period. After completing the training, the employee becomes a qualified specialist. This has effectively allowed us to develop a highly specialist workforce that truly values working at a place such as Litnaglis – delivering benefits both in terms of workforce motivation and overall staff turnover.”

Alongside its production capabilities, Litnaglis is also focused on the level of customer service it can provide each and every customer. “As a company we want to ensure that the customer journey meets the very same benchmarks set by our product quality. Given the present concern of the construction industry with relation to delivery time and speed, it goes without saying that this is a core area of focus for us in meeting the present day needs of the market.”

A good example of this commitment is how Litnaglis has handled the Covid-19 pandemic, with the company proactive from the very beginning. “When the pandemic began to spread around the world, our company was several steps ahead, predicting that raw material prices would rise and there would be massive shortages. Thus, our company took a very important strategic step by purchasing raw material for the year ahead, so we made sure that there would be no shortage during the most difficult period
of the year,” highlights Litnaglis. “Of course, it was a very risky move due to the uncertainty of the future of the industry, but it paid off. At the same time, demand grew exponentially, many companies faced difficulties due to the lack of raw materials, however our company not only maintained but also increased productivity.”

Litnaglis continues: “As a manufacturer within Europe we are in a strong position to meet the needs of the market, especially with the continued challenges associated to supply from the Far East. Our long-term goal is to become the most flexible and wide range nail producer in the world. We want to produce all type of collated nails so that customers can get everything at once. We have big plans for the future, which includes expanding our premises with the addition of several more nail manufacturing factories –
which will partially use green energy sources. We are also looking to expand our product line with new products, with one of them being duplex nails in a plastic strip, which is becoming more popular in the market. We also plan to further expand our supply network worldwide and aim to make the woodpecker in the Litnaglis logo even more recognisable in the nail industry.”
