National Machinery to exhibit with new partners 15 March 2016

National Machinery LLC’s stand at wire® 2016 will be bigger this year, as it will feature two new partnerships – SMART Machinery Srl and its thread rolling equipment, as well as Nakashimada Engineering Works Ltd and its smaller diameter headers and cold/warm formers.

Now under the umbrella of National Machinery products and services, SMART Machinery is known for its technological advancements in thread rolling machinery – whereby mechanical drives are replaced by high precision, low maintenance servo drives. Using its patented technology, SMART has developed a full range of flat die thread rolling equipment to serve the fastener industry.

In addition, National Machinery Europe GmbH recently entered into a sales representation agreement for Nakashimada products and services in specific European countries. The agreement encompasses quotations and sales of new machines, spare parts and services.

Both these new partnerships will be represented at the stand with live demonstrations of a SMART Machinery NG 20 HE induction flat die thread roller and a Nakashimada NP100 2 die 3 blow parts former. Other equipment featured at the National Machinery stand will include a Mectron Q5000 Qualifier and RCD 9500 ‘rotary crack detection’ unit performing demonstrations along with a DTI wire drawer 5830-130TSE unit on display.

National will also showcase a live FORMAX® XXV robotic tool changer. Visitors can witness the ease of operation as the robot performs punch and die cassette changes on a smaller scale FORMAX® XXV replica model.

The National Machinery stand will also feature extensive information about National Machinery, SMART Machinery and Nakashimada warm forming machines. All have produced machinery equipped with warm forming capabilities for the aerospace and specialty material applications. Whether visitors are interested in a fully integrated warming system or a machine that includes the capability to warm form, experts on the stand will be available to answer questions and help determine the best machine design to suite specific part making needs.

Support service technicians will also be available to explain how the National Machinery rebuild process stands out in the industry for quality. Technicians will have detailed information regarding new support services technologies, such as advanced inspection tools and the Virtual Service tool. Met-MAX Innovations experts will also be available to explain the recent upgrades to the online cold form tooling and process calculation program Quikcalc ePlus.

Quikcalc ePlus is a valuable aid for cold forming tool design engineers by simplifying customary cold forming calculations, saving time and taking the guess work out of difficult analyses.

Program updates include the following improvements:

• Quikcalc’s printing and emailing functionality has been enhanced with a cleaner print layout that automatically opens as a PDF. The PDF can easily be printed, emailed or saved.
• The once combined load/energy calculator: ‘Square- Up/Enclosed Upset’ is now separated into two separate calculators. This change will prevent the user from inadvertently selecting the wrong type of operation, by making the user select which type of upset they plan to use.
• The default Workstress Value (1,380N/mm² or 200,000 psi) has been added to the 2-Ring and 3-Ring Press-Fit calculators, as an added convenience feature.
• A completely new functionality has been designed so that users can change the order of calculation jobs by simply dragging and dropping the job tab either forward or backward. This allows for the reordering of calculations in a forming sequence.
• Another functionality improvement will occur when changing any input value in a calculation. By changing any value entered in a calculator form, the previously calculated results will be deleted. This will prevent the possibility of displaying the wrong calculated values after an input value is changed but not recalculated.
