SMART secondary machining technology 10 July 2017

Since purchasing the company in the beginning of 2016, National Machinery LLC has been serving as global master sales and service agent for thread rolling and secondary machining machine manufacturer SMART Machinery Srl.

This strategic partnership has allowed National Machinery to provide cold/warm forming customers with the best option for secondary operations such as thread rolling, pointing, and washer assembly. SMART Machinery manufactures flat die and planetary thread rolling machines, pointer units, and washer assembly units, that use the latest patented technology in the industry. SMART threaders and pointers utilise a totally gearless Direct Drive technology that provides maximum torque at zero speed and requires fewer parts, which in turn means less wear and more space for other machine components than traditional motors. SMART uses the additional internal space to house the electrical cabinet and to allow for a heavy duty, welded stress-relieved frame – permitting higher rolling force and a deeper die pocket. Other benefits of patented Direct Drive include an average 20% higher efficiency, lower operating noise, significant reduction in machine vibration, and a longer running life when compared to traditional motors.

Other significant components of SMART machines are their patented use of servo-driven linear motors in the induction system and servo controlled die match. Linear motors provide precise adjustments of all introduction functions, including control of the exact position of the part between the thread rolling dies and precise placement against the dies. Servo die match is set through the control screen making adjustments simple and repeatable.

Customer support has also been bolstered for SMART Machinery. By utilising National Machinery’s worldwide offices to provide additional support, customers can easily receive qualified support, schedule service, and make part orders through their local language National sales office.
